[TWRP file] How to Root Xiaomi Mi 5 in just few Steps


The Xiaomi Mi 5 android smartphone has been in market for some while, and I’m pretty sure that 80% of you going through this article have already gotten your copy of the smartphone. However, you should also know that the smartphone comes in two variant, the 3GB RAM version and the 4GB RAM version. Any of which, this TWRP file I’ll be dropping is already tested for the 3GB RAM version of the smartphone, which makes root possible. We’ll know the benefits of rooting, if you’re not informed about the benefits, I will quickly mention a few. With root access, you can install custom roms, tweak the dark corners of your device, reduce battery drainage on your device, and improve RAM management.


Before you proceed, make sure that you Enable USB debugging on your Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone. To enable this features, simply go to Settings >> About Phone >> and then scroll to build number and tap up to 7times, till you get a message saying you’re now a developer. After that, go back to settings >> developers option and enable USB debugging.

How to Install TWRP Recovery on Xiaomi Mi 5


1.       Firstly, download the TWRP 3.0.0 Recovery image from here.

2.       After that, download ADB and Fastboot file and setup on your computer.

3.       Now, move the image files to the ADB and fastboot folder. Also rename the TWRP Recovery image to twrp.img.


4.       After that, boot your Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone to fastboot mode. Simply press and hold Volume Down + Power button together till you get to fastboot screen.

5.       Connect your Xiaomi Mi 5 smartphone to the computer via USB cable.

6.       Now, open the ABD and fastboot folder, and on a blank space in the folder, press shift + right click and select “open command prompt windows” option.


7.       After that, issue the below command and hit enter, to verify if your device is properly connected to the computer.

8.       After that, issue the below commands to flash both the twrp recovery image files.

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

9.       The above commands would flash the TWRP Recovery is installed on your device.

How to Root Xiaomi Mi 5


1.       Firstly, download SuperSU from here and move to the internal memory of your device.

2.       Now, boot your Xiaomi Mi 5 device to recovery mode. Simply press and hold Volume Down and Power buttons. Getting to recovery mode "Swipe to Allow system modification", go to wipe and then tap "Format data".



3.       After that, from recovery menu, click on install and locate the SuperSU zipped folder you transferred to the internal memory of your device, and then install it.

4.       Once you’ve successfully flashed both files, then go back to recovery menu and reboot your device.
